Many of us recieved a deposit for vacation pay today. If you did not, open a ticket with HRSS (HR Shared Services) to get a status. One of the members on the LinkedIn group did not receive pay because her manager, who is no longer with Nortel, did not act on a Vacation Request in the system. HRSS is trying to come to a decision on what to pay her.
There are more that 100 members of the LinkedIn group now. If you have not joined and would like to, you may go to www.linkedin.com, create a profile, and join the group. It is free and a great way to network as you look for your next career opportunity.
The folks in Raleigh have been meeting together to locate an attorney and organize a class action to the Bankruptcy court on behalf of employees. I understand that there may be an group forming focused on former executives. If you have any knowledge of this or other groups forming in the US, please post a comment. It would be good to get all of them combined so we have a larger voice at the table.

Some Consistent Information
I heard this information from two or more sources today. It may, therefore, be accurate.
1. Vacation Pay - they will pay us for vacation accrued and including what we accrue in the month of January. They are unsure as to the pay period they will be able to pay but they are working. More than likely the 2/13 pay period
2. Unemployment - The term date will be the 60 day date on your severance. If you file unemployment and the agency calls Nortel, they will tell the rep that your last day you received a paycheck was 1/16
3. 401K - the term date will be 2/13...there will be a 30 day freeze from that date.
They did promise to send information but of course not a definitive date...but they were working it promptly as they know we need the paper work to proceed.

The court has a web site as well:

The person that answered the call said that there is no special class for employees but if I thought I had a claim, I should file it.
I don't know what I expected. The claim amount for an employee is $10,950 according to the form.

Write Your Federal Reprsentatives!
It occured to me after the call that you could write your representative with what is happening. I have included links to the senators and representatives. I would just explain what happened to you and inform them as to the number of employees in the state that are also impacted. I am planning to just explain the facts.
It cannot hurt to let them know what happened and is happening.

The Hits Just Keep Coming -
Adding injury to insult:
- Nortel could not all the paper work finished to have the bank receive funds from Nortel for US employees
- Most of us do not know when our last paycheck will come
- Most of us do not know if earned vacation will be paid
- All of us know that promised severance pay will not be coming
I guess Mike Z is really impressed by the tenacity and capability of the employees. He thinks we can pay our mortgages with air.

Shock Absorber
I don't know about the rest of you, but I spent the day just getting over the shock. This evening I put my job search into hyper drive. I was expecting to have about 11 months to find a new gig, but I will have about 2 before I start consuming savings at an alarming rate.
I'll be here tomorrow to see what is up with the rest of you.

Well, it is final after the hard work and time away from the family, countless hours on planes, Nortel is . . . bankrupt! The latest indignity is denying the employees who they severed their severance pay. It is almost unbelievable.
As a severed Nortel employee, I thought it may be good to have a place for us to meet, vent, and plan the future. So here it is, a place for us to gather virtually and get it our of our systems. I'll be checking in to see how it goes.
Remember, we made Nortel as great as we could given the resources we had. We will make other companies great and have successes we never imagined.
