Many of us recieved a deposit for vacation pay today. If you did not, open a ticket with HRSS (HR Shared Services) to get a status. One of the members on the LinkedIn group did not receive pay because her manager, who is no longer with Nortel, did not act on a Vacation Request in the system. HRSS is trying to come to a decision on what to pay her.
There are more that 100 members of the LinkedIn group now. If you have not joined and would like to, you may go to www.linkedin.com, create a profile, and join the group. It is free and a great way to network as you look for your next career opportunity.
The folks in Raleigh have been meeting together to locate an attorney and organize a class action to the Bankruptcy court on behalf of employees. I understand that there may be an group forming focused on former executives. If you have any knowledge of this or other groups forming in the US, please post a comment. It would be good to get all of them combined so we have a larger voice at the table.

I spoke with a bankruptcy attorney right after the Jan. 14 announcement. He first asked about the filing location, which I said was Delaware. He said there would be a team of attorneys in Delaware who would come forward to represent severed employees in a class action suit -- best part is they are paid by the court, at no cost to those represented. He said they would file for the amount of $10,950, which is considered an average 4-month severance amount, and that the represented severed employeed would be considered "priority creditors" and take precedence over "unsecured creditors". (I'm paraphrasing here, but think this is accurate) This will only happen if the company actually stays in business and has to begin paying creditors. The attorney basically said "don't get your hopes up...if it comes it could take up to 2-3 years..." i.e. Expect nothing, but hope for the $10.950. If you go to the bankruptcy site, there is a link to the application to be included as a creditor. I have not filed it yet -- has anyone else? Any advice?
